Devotion to Study

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be
ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” — 2 Timothy 2:15 ESV

Growth doesn’t happen by accident. Devotion to study is the discipline of giving God your mind. When you study the Word, you are not just collecting information — you are being shaped, corrected, and equipped for life. Ezra set the pattern: “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel” — Ezra 7:10 ESV.

Notice the order: study, do, then teach. God wants all three. The Word must get in us before it can get through us. Devotion to study keeps us from error. “Your word I have stored up in my heart, that I might not sin against you” — Psalm 119:11 ESV. It gives us wisdom for decisions, strength for trials, and truth to answer the questions around us.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” — 2 Timothy 3:16 ESV. But we don’t study in our own strength. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
he will teach you all things” — John 14:26 ESV.

When you are filled with the Spirit, He brings illumination. He makes dry verses come alive and connects truth to your daily life. Be devoted. Set a time. Bring a pen. Ask questions. Pray before you read: “Lord, speak to me.” Then obey what He shows you. A life devoted to study becomes a
life approved and unashamed.

Prayer:
Father, give me a hunger for Your Word. Fill me with Your Spirit and teach me as I study. Help me to rightly handle truth and to live it out. Let Your Word dwell in me richly so my life brings You glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
