Living Peaceably

“If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” — Romans 12:18 ESV

Peace is not the absence of conflict. It is the presence of Christ in the middle of it. God calls us to
be people who pursue peace — in our homes, our workplaces, our church, and our community.
Living peaceably starts in the heart. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” — Matthew 5:9 ESV.

A peacemaker doesn’t avoid hard conversations. He brings the wisdom and gentleness of God
into them. It means choosing to forgive quickly, to speak truth without bitterness, and to refuse
gossip and strife. We cannot do this by willpower alone. Strife is natural to the flesh, but peace is fruit of the Spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…” — Galatians 5:22 ESV.

That is why the infilling of the Spirit is essential. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, He softens your heart, guards your tongue, and gives you grace to let go of offenses. He helps you respond instead of react. He reminds you that “a soft answer turns away wrath” — Proverbs 15:1 ESV.

Living peaceably does not mean compromising truth. Jesus was full of grace and truth. But it does mean we carry the same Spirit that reconciles. “As far as it depends on you” — do your part. Apologize. Listen. De-escalate. Pray for the other person. The world is watching to see if the
Gospel actually works. Let them see Christ in how you handle disagreement. Be a carrier of His
peace.

Prayer:
Father, fill me with Your Spirit and make me a peacemaker. Help me to guard my heart, control
my words, and pursue peace with everyone. Where there is tension, let me bring Your calm.
Where there is division, let me bring Your unity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
