Health Ministry Debunks False Ghana Ebola Claims
The Ministry of Health has categorically dismissed viral reports alleging that Ghana has recorded thousands of Ebola infections and hundreds of fatalities, describing the claims as false, misleading and a deliberate attempt to stoke public panic. Officials insist the country remains Ebola-free and that all surveillance systems are operating at optimal capacity.
In a statement, the Ministry refuted the specific figures circulating on social media and messaging platforms which purported that Ghana was battling a major outbreak. It clarified that no case of Ebola Virus Disease has been confirmed within the country’s borders and that routine epidemiological monitoring continues across all points of entry. The public was urged to treat such sensational content with circumspection and to refrain from forwarding unverified material.
According to the Ministry of Health press release, “no case of Ebola Virus Disease has been confirmed in the country and the public should rely only on official information from the Ministry and the Ghana Health Service.” The Ministry further cautioned that the dissemination of fabricated health data constitutes a public health risk, as it can undermine trust, trigger unwarranted anxiety, and divert resources from legitimate health priorities.
Epidemiologists at the Ghana Health Service reaffirmed that national preparedness protocols remain active, including laboratory diagnostics, contact tracing mechanisms, and border health screening. They emphasized that any suspected viral hemorrhagic fever case is subject to immediate investigation and notification in line with International Health Regulations. The public has also been advised to observe standard preventive hygiene practices as a general measure against infectious diseases.
The latest episode underscores the persistent challenge of health misinformation in the digital age, where unverified claims can achieve rapid amplification and cause collateral damage to social cohesion and economic activity. Public health authorities recalled that during previous regional outbreaks, timely and factual communication proved critical in containing fear and maintaining compliance with medical directives.
