Jota’s Widow Thanks Liverpool Fans for Heartfelt Support

Rute Cardoso, the widow of the late Liverpool FC player Diogo Jota, has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the club and its fans for their overwhelming support following her husband’s passing. The emotional tribute came after Liverpool’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, where fans from both teams paid respects to Jota.

Cardoso watched the match from the stands with their children, Dinis and Duarte, and later took to social media to thank the fans. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the club and to all the fans for the love, respect and support shown during this incredibly difficult time,” she wrote. “Your messages and gestures have meant more than words can express”.

The tribute match was an emotional affair, with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk welcoming Jota’s sons onto the pitch before kick-off. Fans held banners and chanted Jota’s name, while the team wore “Forever 20” emblems on their shirts in his honor.

Liverpool has announced that Jota’s number 20 shirt will be retired across all levels of the club, a first in the team’s history. The club has also committed to honoring the remainder of Jota’s contract, supporting his family.

The outpouring of love for Jota has been a testament to his impact on the club and the football community. Fans continue to sing his chant in the 20th minute of every home game, keeping his memory alive.
