Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament, Patrick Yaw Boamah, is pushing back against plans to hold Parliament’s 2027 post-budget workshop in the Volta Region. The MP says the decision to move the crucial workshop away from Accra must be reconsidered in the interest of prudence and value for money.

Mr Boamah is urging Parliamentary leadership to host the workshop in Accra instead. He argues that transporting and accommodating all 276 Members of Parliament, together with staff and other participants, at the Volta Serene Hotel would impose unnecessary costs on the public purse at a time when the country is calling for fiscal discipline.

According to the Okaikwei Central MP, the post-budget workshop is an important exercise for scrutinising the 2027 Budget, but its location should not become an expensive logistical burden. He maintains that Parliament House in Accra already has the facilities, staff and security arrangements needed to host the workshop without the extra cost of travel, hotel bills and per diems.

Mr Boamah’s intervention has reignited debate about how public institutions spend money on conferences, workshops and retreats outside the capital. Supporters of his position say savings from holding the workshop in Accra could be channelled into more pressing national needs, while others argue that rotating such events helps decentralise governance and boost local economies in regions like Volta.

Parliamentary leadership is yet to issue a final decision on the venue following Mr Boamah’s objection. The development is being closely watched by MPs and the public, as the 2027 post-budget workshop is expected to shape how legislators interrogate government spending, revenue measures and sector allocations for the coming year.

Howedey.com will continue to follow the story and bring readers updates on whether the workshop stays in the Volta Region or is moved back to Accra as proposed by the Okaikwei Central MP.
