The party says its checks with aviation industry players show that the prevailing market rate for similar evacuation charter operations is significantly lower than what government is reported to have paid. According to the NPP, the $750,000 per flight raises serious questions about value for money and procurement transparency.
“At $750,000 per charter flight, this is way above industry rate. Government must come clear on how this figure was arrived at and who authorized it,” a statement from the party noted.
However, the NPP argues that while it supports the evacuation of Ghanaians in distress, the cost per flight must be justified. The party is demanding a full breakdown of costs, including aircraft type, flight hours, handling charges, and any other logistics that could justify $750,000 per trip.
The opposition party also called on Parliament and the Auditor-General to take interest in the matter to ensure that public funds were not inflated. It said Ghanaians deserve transparent accounting, especially at a time when the country is managing tight fiscal conditions.
