From Burnout to Balance
“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for
there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.” — Mark 6:31
Burnout is not of God. Jesus never burned out, even though He carried the weight of the world.
He knew how to withdraw, how to rest, how to balance work with renewal. Many of God’s people
are burning out because they are burning without balance. They are giving out without taking in.
They are pouring out without refilling. Burnout happens when you do more than grace supplies.
You cannot give what you do not have. Even Jesus said, “Come ye yourselves apart and rest a
while.” If Jesus needed rest, you need it too. Ministry, work, family, pressures — all of them
demand from you. But if you do not retreat to be restored, you will collapse under demand. God
wants you effective, not just busy. Balance makes you effective.
Balance is wisdom. To be balanced is to know when to work and when to rest, when to speak and
when to be silent, when to pour out and when to be filled. “To every thing there is a season, and
a time to every purpose under the heaven” — Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV. Life has seasons. If you treat
every season as a time to labour without rest, you will break. God built balance into creation —
day and night, work and Sabbath, sowing and harvest. The cure for burnout is not quitting; it is
balance. God does not want you to quit your assignment; He wants you to do it with wisdom. He
wants you to learn to lean on Him, to cast your cares on Him, to allow Him to carry what you
cannot carry.
We move from burnout to balance by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the balancer. He teaches you
what to say yes to and what to say no to. He restores your strength, renews your mind, and refills
your oil. “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength” — Isaiah 40:31 KJV.
Waiting upon the Lord is not wasting time; it is exchanging burnout for balance, weakness for
strength. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you live balanced — you work in His strength,
you rest in His peace, and you never run dry.
Prayer: Father, thank You for being my source of strength. Forgive me for living without balance.
Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and move me from burnout to balance. Teach me to rest in You, to
wait on You, and to serve You with renewed strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
