Breathing Again
“And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy
Ghost:” — John 20:22 KJV
When Jesus rose from the dead, He did something strange — He breathed on His disciples. Why?
Because man stopped breathing when he fell. In Eden, God breathed into man and man became
a living soul. But when sin came, man began to suffocate — suffocating under guilt, under fear,
under oppression. Jesus came to make us breathe again.
Many are alive but not breathing. They are existing but not living. They have lost their joy, lost
their peace, lost their strength. Their spirit is choked. But when Jesus breathes on you, you
breathe again. Your joy returns, your hope returns, your strength returns. One breath from God
can revive a dead destiny.
God is still breathing on men today. In Ezekiel’s valley, there were dry bones — scattered, broken,
lifeless. The prophet prophesied, but they did not breathe until the wind came. “Come from the
four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live” — Ezekiel 37:9 KJV. And
when the breath came, the bones lived and stood up — a mighty army. You may feel like dry
bones, but when God breathes on you, you will live again.
To breathe again is to receive freshness. It is to be resuscitated by God. It is the end of spiritual
asthma — where you struggle to pray, struggle to worship, struggle to believe. God’s breath
restores ease. His breath makes worship easy again, prayer sweet again, faith alive again.
We breathe again by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the breath of God. The word Spirit is Pneuma —
wind, breath. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you receive the very breath of God into
your spirit, and you start breathing again. He breathes out fear, and breathes in faith. He breathes
out heaviness, and breathes in joy. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will not gasp for
survival; you will breathe with life and vitality.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for breathing life into me. Breathe on me again today. Fill me with Your Holy
Spirit and cause me to breathe again — to live again, to hope again, to worship again. Let Your
breath revive every dry place in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
