About 22 people have sustained injuries in a road crash at Sege on Friday, October 9, 2026, along the Aflao-Accra highway in the Greater Accra Region. The accident has left many families distressed and raised fresh concerns about road safety and tyre maintenance.

The accident occurred at about 1130 hours when a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus, with registration number GW 569-26, travelling from Aflao towards Accra, suffered a burst left rear tyre. According to police preliminary report, the tyre burst was sudden and caused the bus to swerve violently.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and leaving about 22 passengers injured. Eyewitnesses said the bus somersaulted before landing on its side, trapping some passengers inside. Good Samaritans and Sege District Police rushed to the scene to rescue victims.

All 22 injured passengers were quickly transported to the Sege Polyclinic and the Ada East District Hospital for emergency treatment. Medical sources say some victims sustained fractures and lacerations but are responding to treatment. The driver is assisting police with investigations, with police cautioning drivers to check tyre pressure and roadworthiness before long journeys.

The Ada East District Police Command has confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the tyre burst and whether the vehicle was overloaded. The Command urged commercial drivers plying the Accra-Aflao route to adhere to speed limits and ensure regular vehicle maintenance.

Road crashes involving Sprinter buses have been on the rise in Ghana due to tyre bursts and brake failures. The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is expected to visit the injured and intensify education on defensive driving as the Christmas season approaches.
