The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that six Ghanaians were among 79 people arrested in Zambia during a joint operation targeting a facility suspected of involvement in organised cybercrime activities. The announcement was contained in a travel advisory issued by the Ministry on Sunday, 5th October, 2026.

According to the Ministry, the six Ghanaians were arrested in Lusaka on August 23, 2026, alongside 10 Zambians and 63 other foreign nationals. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is working through Ghana’s High Commission in Lusaka to verify the identities of the six nationals and to provide consular assistance. Preliminary information suggests the suspects were allegedly involved in online fraud, romance scams and illegal access to computer systems targeting victims in multiple countries.

Zambian authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing and the suspects remain in custody pending screening and possible prosecution. The Ministry advised Ghanaians travelling abroad to be cautious of job offers promising lucrative IT jobs that turn out to be fronts for cybercrime operations, a trend that has seen many young Ghanaians lured into criminal networks in Southern and Eastern Africa.
