22 Deputy Police Commissioners Decorated After Promotion To DCOP

LIVE | Promotion of 22 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCOPs) is currently underway at the Police Headquarters in Accra. The 22 newly promoted officers have had their previous ranks removed and replaced with their new ones as they are officially decorated following their elevation from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).

The ceremony, presided over by the Inspector General of Police, is being held in the presence of members of the Police Management Board, senior officers, and families of the promoted officers. Each officer is being decorated one after another in a colourful parade that signifies their new leadership roles within the Ghana Police Service.

According to the Police Administration, the promotion of the 22 officers was approved by the Police Council based on recommendations for hard work, dedication and years of meritorious service. The officers have served in various capacities including regional command, CID, MTTD, and specialised units across the country.

The IGP charged the newly promoted DCOPs to uphold integrity, professionalism and discipline as they assume higher command responsibilities. He reminded them that the rank of DCOP comes with greater accountability, especially as the Service intensifies efforts to improve public trust and operational effectiveness ahead of the festive season.

Family members and colleagues cheered as the officers’ new epaulettes were unveiled. The Ghana Police Service has been undertaking a series of promotions in 2026 to fill command vacancies and motivate personnel across ranks. The promotion to DCOP is one of the senior officer grades and places the officers in line for regional command and director positions.
