Interior Minister Orders Agencies to Source Water from Ghana Prisons Service

Ghana’s Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has directed all agencies under the Ministry to exclusively source water produced by the Ghana Prisons Service. This move aims to support the rehabilitation efforts of inmates and boost the service’s revenue generation.

According to GHOne News, the Minister’s instruction is part of efforts to enhance the Ghana Prisons Service’s operational capabilities and contribute to national development. The Ghana Prisons Service has been making strides in producing quality water, with the Kumasi Central Prisons inaugurating a sachet and bottled water production facility ยน.

The Minister’s directive is expected to increase demand for the Ghana Prisons Service’s water products, thereby generating more revenue for the service. This revenue will be reinvested into expanding the water production facility and other rehabilitation programs, benefiting inmates and prison staff.

The Ghana Prisons Service has been implementing various initiatives to improve inmate welfare, including vocational training and agriculture projects. The water production facility is one such initiative, providing inmates with practical skills and employment opportunities.
